It is a far crime that up till now importers living in the SE and Delta SS areas are forced to import their goods through the Lagos ports and forced to pay all those fees and taxes for the development of Lagos alone. This has created disadvantaged level of economic activities for the business people of those regions. The technical short-comings in the Eastern and Delta ports such as shallow berths and draft deficiency of the channels are all as a result of negligence and lack of interest in the development of those sea ports in Port Harcourt, Calabar and Warri.

This is a typical example of economic sabotage on the development of the Eastern and Delta areas of the country to the sole benefit of Lagos. It is high time that the Federal government develop these other sea ports open, them up, dredge them and bring them up to par with other international ports. When the Eastern and Delta areas ports are brought to function at full capacity, the Lagos ports will decongest and shipping capacity and activities will increase with more jobs created for Nigerians.
The businesss people in the SE and Delta regions including others from other regions should not have to be forced to import their goods through Lagos, pay those high fees and then have to transport their goods all the way from Lagos to their areas.

It is a great shame that the Nigerian ports are at a technical level
below those of other West African countries In the interest of general economic development in all regions of the country all the ports in Nigeria must be brought to the level of their west African counterparts.
